Laser Cut Photos and Artwork
In the end of 2018 we acquired a Glowforge Pro Laser cutting and etching machine. It is a pretty big machine that can be controller through a web browser to cut through and etch into many materials such as wood, leather, acryllic sheets, plastics, thick paper, glass, and aluminum. Glass and aluminum are not cut, only etched. I wanted this machine in my lab because it allows me to take beautiful artwork from 2D CAD drawings, photoshop, pictures, or even drawings and make beautiful laser art with them into usually wood. I have been developing a deeper understanding of the workflow to make the machine really shine when it comes to joining examples of photography and fine art with 2D Vector Geometry from CAD drawings to create amazing pieces. You will see some of them below. The materials we mostly use are wood and acryllic.
Some of the photos below that have been converted to laser etched wood are wedding photos from people attached to Staten Island Tech, photos of myself and my family, Mr. Erlenwein, some pencil work art, and a few other pieces. Any raw image with heavy contrast of dark and light colored areas can be processed in Adobe Photoshop or a similar program to etch perfectly into wood as beautiful art with a lovely burnt wood scent. 3D work can also be done creatively with materials, especially wood, using some CAD software of course. |
